  • Hello Yike, I noticed on one of your posts, you said that you have a B.S. in physics. I am about to graduate with a B.S. in physics, and I am curious to know what you did or where you are now. I would like to work in Chicago in some soft of quantitative role, with programming and mathematical analysis. Do you think I need a M.S. in Quantitative Finance in order to find work? In other words, am I hirable? Thanks!

You should be able to answer algorithms and data structures questions. You can showcase work by working on open source projects and posting the work in github. You need to have experience working with big data sets (>100MB, pref >10 GB). The physics degree says you're smart, the CS stuff says whether or not you'll drown on the job.

Thanks for your info- very helpful. I'm wondering what specific applications I should know how to use while working with large data sets. Given your experience, should I try my luck looking for jobs or internships now, or wait until I learn more from my own time?

You need to be able to write custom code to handle big data processing. There may be pre-built applications, but those usually cost money and aren't portable, or flexible.

You should look now. Take a few interviews and see what people ask you; adapt your studying to what they ask.
Hello. I have a paper, regarding the empirical study of the performances of Black-Scholes. And I would like t ask you something, if it does not bother you.it's about the implied volatility estimate and the pricing error. How could I get in contact with you, so I could explain my problem.Thank you very much.I'm quite new here, and I don't know exacly how these messeges work.Thank you very much.

Hi. I am applying for Baruch MFE for 2011 fall semester. I am curious to know more about what kind of profiles admitted students have (which is off course mentioned on their web site). I submitted my chances of getting in with my profile on one of the threads but no one has commented anything yet. Would you mind sharing your pre baruch profile with me and comment on my profile. I would share my credentials with you as soon as I hear back from you. I appreciate your time and would like to hear from you soon.
    Hi Yike.
I was wondering if I can talk to you about your applications to these schools. I am a fellow baruch student as well but I am looking to get into the MFE program and I'm not sure of which school I am matched for. I was wondering what your GPA was and what relevant course work you took / job experience. Thanks in advance!
