C++ Programming for Financial Engineering

Through the course I really learnt a lot and the TA is very responsible.

This is a very good C++ course for someone who has no previous knowledge of C++. The course is well structured and the assignments are very clear to guide you through the material. In the end, I managed to complete the course with over 60 days left, provided the fact that I have zero knowledge of C++ before. All the helps from the forum and TAs are deeply appreciated.

The course is delicate and friendly. For newbie like me with no programming background, I can learn a lot from it. Now I want to extend my skillset in more programming language and it is the course that help me develop an interest for programming and finance. This online course is extremely helpful to new beginners who seek to build their programming skills. It not only gives a comprehensive cover of all C/C++ basics, but emphasizes what is particularly important to quantitative finance. What I really like is Level 7, 8 and 9, which cover a lot of useful applications in real life and that's what we can't learn from another common C++ course. Additionally, the homework is quite well-designed and it greatly strengthens my understanding. The difficulty of the course was just about right for beginners in C++ but with background in other languages. The contents are divided into reasonable sessions and are completed with problem sets that help with learning. Sufficient help can be found on the forum and there are discussions not limited to the scope of the course but essentially allow us to understand C++ better.

The lead model developer in my group at work recommended this course so that I would have more opportunities to assist him and the rest of the team with future C++ model development. We work at a bank doing valuations on OTC derivatives for hedge fund clients, and we mostly use C++ for our pricing models. Although I had some C++ exposure in undergrad (I studied Quantitative Finance in undergrad), I never had a formal C++ education until taking this course. This class has been massively beneficial in my understanding of the C++ programming language and I highly recommend the course to anyone interested in developing these skills.

The course differs from the courses that I took before in that most of what I learnt comes from my assignment, rather than the slides or videos. The homework is well designed and we can get a good understanding about many topics which are not taught in the videos and I found this way more effective. After all, programming is all about practicing yourself, so the forums are very important learning resources that anyone who wants to make the best of the course should leverage.
