Looking at jobs I'm seeing some guys making 400K out of the ballpark and some salaries up to 50M a year. Is this real? Should I lower my expectations right out of my MFE?

Look at the salaries reported in the QN rankings (on this website) and then compare your profile to that schools median graduate. Adjust the pay range accordingly.

short answer: yes, you should lower your expectations unless you are one of the best in the world at some skill finance companies can use.
