Debug mode bugs.

This problem has been bothering me for a long time. When the project runs fine in the release mode, it gives the following error in the debug mode:
1>LINK : fatal error LNK1123: failure during conversion to COFF: file invalid or corrupt
Why? And what does the front "1>" means?
Besides, I have learnt a few MatLab and in it we can debug line after line to find out the exact error and view or set the value of the formal parameters which we cannot have access to otherwise. Is there a conterpart in C++? I think the build in C++ means compile and the debug ctrl-F5 means run after comlipe, and I don't know how to debug line after line. Does C++ have such a feature?

You can set a breakpoint in VS and then use the debug menu to step through by line. This happens at runtime, not at compile time.
