This Weekend, Everyone Had A Take On Stock Options Backdating
Posted by Eric Savitz
So this was the weekend when every newspaper seemed to have a big takeout on the stock-option backdating scandal.
The Sunday New York Times business section has a long piece on the stock-options backdating problems at Mercury Interactive; in particular, it looks at the role played by the company's outside directors.
The San Jose Mercury News, on the front of its business section, asks whether the stock-option scandal has turned into a witch hunt, as asserted by Network Appliance (NTAP) CEO Dan Warmenhoven.
The Merc also has an interview with Kirk Hanson, a Stanford-based ethicist, who takes a sharply critical view of backdating.
