Are there any well-ranked and inexpensive (so probably not in the UK) masters' programs in Europe that relate to quant finance in some way? My main goal is to think over whether or not I'd prefer academia (PhD) or industry, and honestly I'd like to spend a year abroad, even if I have an intensive schedule. I've known people who went over the pond to study at Oxbridge or the like only to rack up massive debt without really advancing their goals. I guess I'm looking at continental unis, probably in France or Germany. Mostly interested in applied math, stats, math finance or something similar.

look at some programs at the Ulm university , germany....

Thanks, I'll look into those programs. I'm probably more interested in something even more general though -- along the lines of applied math or stats. Anyone caution against spending a year or two in Europe (aside from high cost of living) rather than working/applying to grad school in the US? Will it significantly impact my career prospects?
