Job offer/situation advice

I applied for a quant position at BB through their website, but received no reply - I guess unsuccessful. A recruitment agency contacted me regarding a different position which I interviewed for and now received a verbal offer. Suddenly the BB HR is saying they already had my resume in their system - I guess they want to avoid paying the recruiter? Will there be a problem moving forward?

I would think it would be between them and the headhunter, not you
