I have been offered a role in the Risk Model Validation space. I have around 6 yrs of industry experience in the Market Risk side.

Was wondering how will the career progression will be from a Model Validation role? Is it possible to move to a Desk Quant Role or something more challenging in the future?

Any views will be highly appreciated.

Risk model validation is about as far from a desk quant role as you can get. In many firms (MS for example) you will even be in different buildings.

"More challenging"; does this mean more money? Model validation roles can get very challenging; depends on your workload and your manager.

As far as career progression, once you are in a firm you should have no problem networking around giving yourself a strong advantage over outsiders applying for desk quant roles. Just don't expect the transition to happen quickly, and make sure to network, network, and network.

Thanks a lot for the advice.
