Hi! Congratulations and wish you a great, exciting journey ahead!Regular internship opportunities are available for both winter and summer breaks. MFM group holds quant career fair annually in the past, along with other departments' events. So you will get much exposure with internship opportunities. From my class, quite some people got internship through such events and stayed for part-time when semester began. Besides, exclusive opportunities are very frequently communicated to MFM current student email list. All MFM students are welcomed at career fair, social event, and seminars. There is definitely no rule as "2nd year students only". You will also see at MFM seminars many familiar faces from career fair and you will have time to connect with them after seminars. To my observation, some intern positions are well paid, a good financial support for a grad student's life. But also some people are willing to take a job with little or no compensation aiming for practical experience and career growth.Range from 2 months to 1 year. If one impresses the manager at an intern job, past records show that it's very likely to have prolonged period and get hired for full time position. Also winter/summer research programs led by MFM instructors are very good projects which are valued by the employers. If you stay close with teachers and with Laurie early on and show your background/capacity, I'm confident that you'll not get bored when there are no classes.
