Any particular quant positions involve heavy uses of databases?

I'm asking this since I as an undergrad will be taking database courses (involving query language and database design) and am wondering how deep I should actually bother going into all of this. Is there a niche for those who know databases well enough analogous to a quant developer role? Just wondering.

While it's great to know SQL, the fact of the matter is that it's very easy to learn and use and is therefore lackinga niche.

It's one of the things that you do on your job daily. The better you know, the more efficient you will be. I know a couple years ago, a trading desk at one of the big banks want to hire someone to work on their desk and the most important skill they want is SQL.
Go figure.
