Ergonomic chairs

Given that the majority of members here will spend most of their working life sitting in front of a computer, a bad chair will have huge and lasting impact on your health and back. A good one would make big difference.

I'm on the market for a new chair and like to see what other good ones that other members recommend.

Been looking at a lot of Herman Miller chairs lately, specially the Mirra model.

Have Mira chair for 4 years, I think. Don't know if you're interested in some specific details, but overall it's great chair, and I particularly like mesh material and design of the seat itself. Also, I'd say user reviews on Amazon page you linked above are spot on.

(On the other side, my experience is that when one spends like 8 or even 10 hours a day in a chair, that stretching and alike exercises are must - even if Mira is serving me great, if I skip exercising for two or three days, lower back pain is back there.)

Mirra looks very nice. But I am poor ... so i recently bought Realspace® Calusa Mesh Mid-Back Chair,

Very supportive Mesh for back. And very comfortable cushion. For me, breathable material is a big thing and it is just that. Designed for 3-5 hours of use which is about the max time i would sit to work/study at home. Easily available at your local office depot, you can try it all you want there before you buy. Not to mention very attractively priced.

I just bought a cheap desk from Ikea but would definitely invest in a high quality chair.

I play tennis weekly so that takes care of the exercise part a bit.

For me, I do judo and jiu-jitsu 3 times a week. I find that it helps a lot to enhance mental concentration.

Slouching in the chair is very bad. Keep the back upright.

I reckon yoga would be very good for quants as well

I am sure that RealSpace chair is great deal. Mine at $179 definately is. Just go down to any Office depot and have a seat. And I just want to put it out there about iKea, i am glad its cheap and all. It lasts you more than a couple of years, when you toss it you don't feel you wasted so much in furniture....lol. Just stay away from there Drawers Chest/dressers and Closets.

Andy, I purchased the Realspace-PRO-Quantum-Mesh-Mid-Back and while it was a fine chair for but it was no Aeron. My old Aeron resides with an ex-girlfriend post-breakup. So it's gone. After 1 month with the Quantum I picked up another Aeron and gave the Quantum to a junior in the office. I found the mesh fabric on these cheaper chairs can be slightly abrasiveness to certain pant fabrics.

I own two HM Aeron executive chairs ( polished aluminum fully loaded ). One for home and one I supply to any office I work at. Spend the money on chairs and and flat slab will do as a desk.
