Dear Community, I recently stumbled over a promising platform that offers different applications in a HPC environment on demand, which made me wonder about possible uses for that service in terms of trading or other finance-related fields. Is it possible to estimate by how far cloud/hpc solutions could be beneficial for finance? thanks a lot!

It's a useful concept for backtesting. For live trading not so much; you would want a co-lo and your own HPC to go with it.

You don't have to co-locate your machines for live trading unless fast access to the exchange is needed. That depends on your time frame.

Granted, but what's the point of HPC if speed isn't of the essence?

The first part, back testing. You can also consider optimal asset allocation and any other sort of intensive Math.

sounds quite promising... i finally decided to sign up on that platform (cloudnumbers.com) and made some first experiences with their R environment in the cloud, which works surprisingly well so far. hopefully they keep their promise and release some more finance packages soon.
